Hey Reader,
⏀ The Starbucks Problem – Starbucks pioneered the idea of the “third space” between home and work. However, the unique Italian coffee culture they brought to America has now been challenged by: the needs for efficiency and scale; rising mobile users; digitization; and commoditization Sounds familiar? These are the same challenges facing healthcare. This excellent HBR article outlines strategies to help Starbucks move forward- and perhaps healthcare too.
💡Before you can disrupt your brand, you first must know what makes it special .
⏀ Late Bloomers – We all remember the fable of the tortoise and the hare. Despite this, our society worships speed but rarely publicizes success and fulfillment in life. Doctors finding their second passion, or transitioning away from clinical medicine might be a unique type of proverbial tortoise. David Brooks writes about the traits that allow for people to find their calling later in life – late bloomers.
💡As we all live longer, we need to learn the art of sustained success and engagement in life over its full duration. Don’t peak too early. Push yourself till the end – because it’s not the pursuit of happiness but the happiness of the pursuit.
⏀ Idea I’m mulling – The difference between a setback and a failure is if you keep going. Setbacks are minor hiccups where failures are a divergences from the intended outcome of your goals. Setbacks are part of life and should be expected. In fact, if you don’t encounter any, you’re probably on the wrong path in life. Failures are not fatal but can be an act of resignation. Both are valuable because you cannot ask to be a strong, resilient, strategic person without the corresponding life experiences to cultivate those traits. And success will not do that – only troubles, problems, setbacks and yes failures.
💡Setbacks are temporary and failures are instructive. Your success potential is directly related to your ability to tolerate failure, risk and rejection.
⏀Quote I’m pondering – The secret to life is to have a task, something you devote your entire life to, something you bring everything to, every minute of the day for the rest of your life. And the most important thing is – it must be something you cannot possibly do.” – Henry Moore, sculptor
💡Your purpose has to be bigger than you, in service of an ideal, and give a narrative to the arc of your life.

💡Wearables actively and passively collecting health device is the future of healthcare. Data savviness is the new requirement of the modern doctor.
⏀Literary Hack – “Rusha, you read so many articles. What tips do you have?” To some people’s surprise, I am actually a very slow reader – but I am avid. One tip to try – read backwards. Start at the end of the book or article and move upwards. See how it engages you more.
💡Reading backwards will be a test of your understanding and is the best tip to improve your own writing.
